beyond good and evil 2 Release date upcoming ubisoft game of 2018

                Beyond Good and Evil 2

fastlane
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is an upcoming action-adventure video game in development by Ubisoft Montpellier and to be published by Ubisoft, it is a prequel to 2003's Beyond Good & Evil. Its development was characterized in the media by uncertainty, doubt and rumours about the game's future, until it was officially announced at Ubisoft's E3 2017 conference, although no release window or target platform has been revealed

Development

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has languished for several years, and considered to have been in development hell.
The original Beyond Good & Evil game, released in 2003, was critically praised and gained a cult following, but was considered a commercial failure. Ancel explained that as he wrote out the game's universe, he found it was bigger than what he could practically include within a single game, and thus anticipated the game to be the first of a trilogy of works. However, the poor sales of this game left its publisher Ubisoft reluctant to invest in a sequel.[3]

Rumors about a sequel began to circulate around 2007, starting with a Nintendo Power interview with Ancel who stated he was working on a new project that was very personal to him, and mentioned his hopes to reuse Jade, the player-character from Beyond Good & Evil, in a future project without changing her personality.[4] Ancel said in a May 2008 interview with the French magazine Jeuxvideo.fr that the Beyond Good & Evil sequel had been in pre-production for a year, but was yet to be approved by Ubisoft.[5] Later that month, as part of their "Ubidays" event, Ubisoft released a trailer for the next, yet-named project from Ancel and their Ubisoft Montpellier studio, which had worked on Beyond Good & Evil. The trailer used Beyond Good & Evil music assets and showed characters that appeared to be Jade and Pey'j from the original Beyond Good & Evil. Ubisoft reported that the trailer had all been recorded within the game engine, showcasing high-resolution graphics representative of seventh generation consoles capabilities.[6][7] A second, leaked trailer appeared for the game on the Internet around May 2009, showing a character that appeared to be Jade running through a crowded street. The trailer was confirmed to be authentic by Ancel, while Ubisoft denied that they had purposely released the footage.[8][9][10][dead link]
Since these trailers, up until 2016, the state of program with Beyond Good and Evil 2 was unclear, with conflicting statements made by both Ubisoft and Ancel. While Ancel and Ubisoft reported several times that the game was still in development, rumors circulated that Ubisoft had put the game on hold,[11][12][13][14] that Ubisoft had yet to officially announced the title and thus production was not officially started,[15][16][17] and that Ancel had left Ubisoft Montpellier,[18][19] By 2016, Ancel affirmed that they had put aside work on Beyond Good and Evil 2 to develop Rayman Legends (2013) which enabled them to produce tools that would help with the production of Beyond Good and Evil 2; once work for Rayman Legends was completed, they returned to Beyond Good & Evil's sequel.[20][21] Ubisoft later noted that with Ancel's time was split between Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Wild, a title developed by Ancel's Wild Sheep Studios outside of Ubisoft.[22]
In late 2016, Ancel used social media to post images from the game, showing a younger Pey'j, hinting that Beyond Good and Evil 2 may be a prequel. Ubisoft shortly followed by officially announcing the game.[23][24][25] Ubisoft showed the first new trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 during their E3 2017 conference and was announced as a prequel to the first game.[26] During E3 2017, Ancel confirmed that the 2008 and 2009 trailers were from initial work as a narrative sequel to Beyond Good & Evil, but during development they opted to change direction and make it a prequel, and thus the work previously shown was from an effectively different game.[1]
The platforms for release have not been announced. There had been rumors that it would have been released as a timed exclusive for the Nintendo Switch (under its codename NX) in the prior year,[27] but Ancel confirmed this was not the case. The "Space Monkey Program" lists the game for Microsoft WindowsPlayStation 4 and Xbox One, however Michel Ancel stated that the platforms have not been announced yet, and that the listing was due to a bug.[28][29] Ancel later told Kotaku that the game is designed to run on many platforms.[30]

Gameplay development

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be made more accessible to the new generation of players, in an effort to make sure the sequel does not suffer the same commercial failure the original did.[31] Guillemot clarified that statement later on, saying that they do not intend to make the game more casual player-oriented.[32]
A core element of the game is the ability to explore several different planets via space travel. To power this, Ancel and the Ubisoft Montpellier team started building a solar system simulation tool about three years prior to the E3 2017 reveal. This tool uses a combination of designed elements and procedural generation to assemble those elements for a given planet.[1] Only just before E3 2017, they complete the preliminary work on the tool so that they can then start building the rest of the game around it; Ancel considered that they were only at "day zero" for the game's development.[1]

The film also pays tribute to Robin Williams, star of the first film, through a mention of his character's name.[7] The film stars Dwayne JohnsonJack BlackKevin HartKaren GillanNick Jonas, and Bobby Cannavale. The film was released in Real D 3D and IMAX.

Cast

  • Alex Wolff as Spencer Gilpin, a nerdy gamer at Brantford High School who goes to detention with Fridge, Martha, and Bethany, for writing Fridge's homework for him; he discovers the Jumanji video game. He later becomes Martha's love interest. He is credited as "Young Spencer".
    • Dwayne Johnson as Dr. Smolder Bravestone, an archaeologist and explorer who is Spencer's avatar. Bravestone's strengths are stamina, courage, reflexes, climbing, smoldering intensity, and boomerang throwing. Being the archetypically masculine, intelligent, and courageous video game hero of the story, he apparently has no weaknesses. He is credited as "Spencer".
  • Madison Iseman as Bethany Walker, a pretty and popular yet narcissistic and self-centered teenage girl at Brantford High School who goes to detention with Spencer, Fridge, and Martha, after talking on her phone during a quiz and displaying an arrogant contempt towards her class in the process. She is credited as "Young Bethany".
    • Jack Black as Professor Sheldon "Shelly" Oberon, a cartographercryptographerarchaeologist and paleontologist who is Bethany's avatar after mistaking the character's name ("Shelly") for that of a woman. Though Oberon's strengths are his fields of expertise, because of his state of being as "an overweight, middle-aged man", he lacks in endurance. He/she is credited as "Bethany".
  • Ser'Darius Blain as Anthony "Fridge" Johnson, a Brantford High School football jock who lacks confidence to succeed academically and goes to detention with Spencer, Martha, and Bethany for having Spencer write his essays for him and is also kicked off his football team. He discovers the bowling ball in detention that the four use to destroy the game at the end of the film. He is credited as "Young Fridge".
    • Kevin Hart as Franklin "Mouse" Finbar, a zoologist and weapons specialist who is Fridge's avatar due to the game's font causing Fridge to misread the character's nickname as "Moose". Finbar's status as weapons specialist makes him Bravestone's weapon valet (having everything Bravestone needs in his signature backpack). He is nicknamed "Mouse" for his short stature; though it degrades him of speed and strength, Fridge uses this in the climax of the film to rendezvous with the others on the back of an elephant that was charging at him earlier. Cake makes him explode and lose a life. He is credited as "Fridge".
  • Morgan Turner as Martha Kaply, a teenage girl at Brantford High School who goes to detention with Spencer, Fridge, and Bethany, for objecting to physical education class and disregarding her teacher. She later becomes Spencer's love-interest. She is credited as "Young Martha".
    • Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, a commando, martial artist, and dance fighter who is Martha's avatar (after Martha was peer-pressured into playing with the others). Roundhouse is proficient in karatetai chijujutsu and dance fighting. Similar to Bravestone, Roundhouse is the archetypically intelligent, athletic, beautiful, and scantily clad video game heroine of the story, with her only weakness being venom, such as that found in various animals in the game. She is credited as "Martha".
  • Mason Guccione as Alex Vreeke, a teenage boy who played, and was trapped inside, the Jumanji video game for 20 years. He is credited as "Young Alex".
    • Colin Hanks as Adult Alex Vreeke
    • Nick Jonas as Jefferson "Seaplane" McDonough, Alex Vreeke's avatar. McDonough is a mysterious guide, adventurer, and pilot in the game, who waits for and joins the other avatars as they attempt to escape Jumanji. McDonough's strengths are piloting and making margaritas that "Mouse"/"Fridge" takes a liking to. His only weakness is mosquito bites, which is bad for him and all the more ironic since the jungle, being a tropical one, is teeming with mosquitoes. He is credited as "Alex".[9] During his twenty-year absence, he lives in a treehouse built and once occupied by Alan Parrish (previously portrayed by Robin Williams and Adam Hann-Byrd in the 1995 film Jumanji).
